Ambition

The project’s concept is to enable a deep and holistic understanding of the complementary factors driving extremism and radicalisation through a robust gender-sensitive approach. By integrating knowledge from diverse sources, including research, policy analysis, and community networks, AMALTHEA will establish a dynamic foundation for awareness, prevention, and de-radicalisation. This knowledge will be model-driven to further analyse behaviours, motivations, and gender dynamics in radicalisation processes. It will also support experts via a collaborative, privacy-aware simulation environment for cross-disciplinary investigation. Finally, AMALTHEA will enhance de-radicalisation efforts with intelligent decision-support mechanisms, tailor-made training, and inclusive policy recommendations that promote gender equality and resilience against extremism across Europe.

Violent extremism (VE) remains poorly understood through a gender lens, with research often limited to women’s empowerment or superficial inclusion. Gender-blind approaches fail to capture the roles of masculinity, socialization, and intersectional factors in radicalisation. As a result, policies and interventions frequently fail to address the complex realities of individuals and communities affected by VE.

AMALTHEA addresses these gaps by generating in-depth knowledge on gendered motivations, intra-group dynamics, and societal drivers of VE. It promotes evidence-based prevention and de-radicalisation strategies that are sensitive to gender and diversity. By combining research, knowledge management, and innovative tools, the project empowers law enforcement, civil society, and communities. AMALTHEA ensures collaboration across stakeholders, builds scalable solutions, and delivers actionable insights for tailored, gender-responsive CVE policies. Through intersectional and feminist-informed analysis, it fosters early identification of radicalisation pathways and inclusive approaches to safer societies.

The AMALTHEA project seeks to address these gaps by leveraging innovative research and advanced AI to create, manage, and share deep knowledge on gender-related radicalisation. By combining intersectional, post-colonial, and gender-stereotype analyses, AMALTHEA aims to understand the motivations, societal contexts, and extremist narratives that drive radicalisation. The project will provide policymakers, practitioners, and institutions with tailored insights while exploring the experiential dimensions of radicalisation. Through advanced knowledge modelling, scenario simulation, and collaborative AI platforms, AMALTHEA enables real-time multi-stakeholder engagement, ensuring that prevention, deradicalisation, and policy strategies are inclusive, effective, and firmly evidence-based.
